Pat's legal career spans over two decades and encompasses a broad range of client needs, from basic wills and trusts to sophisticated tax planning for large estates, as well as special needs trusts and probate and trust administration. A frequent speaker to both professional and lay groups, she enjoys educating people about the need for comprehensive planning for their estates to prepare them and their families for the unexpected as well as the inevitable. 

Pat has served on the boards of directors of the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Travis County Bar Association and the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.  She has also advanced the missions of  Austin Ballet and the American Cancer Society through service on those boards, and on the planned giving committees of numerous organizations, including Hospice Austin.

Pat has lived in Rollingwood (a residential community near the heart of Austin by Zilker Park) with her husband, Philip, and four children for nearly 30 years.  Pat served as Rollingwood's presiding municipal judge for more than eight years.

Barbara has over twenty-five years’ experience representing clients in the areas of wills and trusts, estate planning for small, medium and large estates, probate, guardianship and trust law.  She started her legal career as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas, representing state agencies in federal and state court litigation, appeals and administrative proceedings. She entered private practice in 1983 and currently provides counsel on a wide range of matters including tax planning, trusts, and issues facing non-traditional families.

Barbara handles routine and contested matters in Travis, Hays, Williamson and surrounding counties, including litigation in the areas of will contests and will construction, cases by and against executors and trustees, and contested guardianships. 

She volunteers regularly, taking pro bono legal cases for Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, Family Eldercare, and the Women’s Advocacy Project.  She currently serves on the President’s Council of Family Eldercare, Inc., a non-profit agency that provides essential services for elders, adults with disabilities and those who care for them.

Ellen’s practice areas focus on estate planning, as well as uncontested and contested probate and guardianship matters.  She has a depth of litigation experience gained from her work representing clients in commercial and insurance litigation.  Her practice encompasses all areas of estate/trust administration, representing executors, trustees, heirs and beneficiaries, and creditors, in routine estate administrations as well as complex and contested matters.  Ellen has written and presented various CLE materials on probate estate administration.

Away from the office, Ellen Stewart works pro bono with Family Eldercare and Volunteer Legal Services on projects involving estate planning, probate and guardianship. Her volunteer work also includes serving on the Texas Wellness Conference Planning Committee (2006), serving on the board of directors for the ABA Estate Planning and Probate Section.  Outside of the legal community, Ellen works with college students at Southwestern University and Texas State University as an advisor. Ellen previously served as the local  president of the Greater Austin Alumni Association of Southwestern University from 2007-09 and still participates in the local alumni events.  During the fall, you will find Ellen and her family supporting the pride of North Austin, the Anderson High School Trojan Band at football games and competitions.  Ellen and her family are members of St. Theresa Catholic Church and former members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

John R. Ott, of counsel to Barnes Lipscomb Stewart & Ott PLLC, comes to the firm after more than a decade with a large, multi-practice Austin law firm. He represents clients with complex estates and trusts, including those having contested matters. John enjoys working with clients to manage estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax issues and has much experience utilizing Family Limited Partnerships, trusts, and other business entities to integrate and protect family businesses. His practice includes estate planning, estate administration and contested/litigation matters.

John volunteers regularly, representing qualified clients in probate and guardianship cases. He also takes appointments from the Probate Court to serve as attorney ad litem and estate administrator.

Before joining Barnes Lipscomb & Stewart in 2010, Clint worked for two and half years as the Law Clerk / Staff Attorney for The Honorable Guy Herman in the Travis County Probate Court No. 1.  During Clint’s time at the Probate Court he assisted with approximately 4,000 probate cases and has been exposed to more variations of probate and guardianship disputes than most attorneys encounter during their entire career.  Clint’s practice focuses on estate planning as well as uncontested and contested cases in probate, estate administration, and guardianships.  Clint accepts appointments from the Probate Court to serve as an attorney ad litem, guardian ad litem, or estate administrator in probate, trust, and guardianship cases.  Clint is also a regular speaker for the Texas College of Probate Judges regarding heirship determinations.

Evan comes to the firm as a recent graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Tech Estate Planning & Community Property Law Journal. As Editor, he published written work on estate planning for high net worth athletes and assisted hosting the 2015 Texas Tech Estate Planning Journal CLE. In his third year, he received the Scott McEntire Third Year Service and Leadership Award, the Tradition of Excellence Award, and was named to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. Additionally during his time at Texas Tech, Evan served on the Board of Barristers advocacy organization and represented Texas Tech in advocacy competitions across the country in both moot court and negotiations. 

Evan was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada before coming to Texas to attend law school and to practice. He lives in the Barton Creek neighborhood in west Austin. He played competitive ice hockey finishing his career in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and enjoys many outdoor fitness pursuits.
